Poetry: A Grey Knight by Beata

A Grey Knight

White pawn to e4,

black pawn to e5,

both sides vying

for central domination

where control

is power.

Black and White rules.

A lone figure stands

unannounced.

A grey knight emerges

surplus to need

causing havoc

amongst the ranks of

predictability

unwilling to take

the sacrificial pawn.

Strategy displaced

by this imposition

turning its back

on compromise

as feeble inhibitions

want of resolution.

Two extremities

merge into one

all revealed

and considered

without need

for simplistic clarity

rejected

for its complexities.

Open mind

leads to

closed possibilities.

No where to belong

because you belong

everywhere.

No end game in sight

as lack of resolve

is left hanging

uncomfortably

at stale mate.
